It was one year ago today that your dad and I jumped in our car to go to the ASPCA and see if we could find a small 1+ year old dog that would fit into our NYC sized life and apartment. When we arrived we found anything but what we were looking for, instead finding Great Dane mixes, Labradors and Retrievers. We were about to go home disappointed for leaving empty handed without having anyone to bring home but we decided to take an another look. That's when we saw your scared & shy little face barely looking at us from the corner of the room, you wouldn't come to us until after 15 minutes of sitting patiently on the floor waiting for you to realize that we just wanted to pet you and meet you, I guess you were just playing hard to get because you felt that we loved you from the minute we met you. Of course you weren't a small dog weighing 30 pounds and you weren't 1+ years old with only 5 months under your belt but you adopted us and our preference flew out the window and we never looked back.
I'll admit that we were learning as we went along like first time parents but you were so patient with us that together the 3 of us learned to be the happy family we are. After 1 year you still make us feel like rockstars the minute we get home with our 15 minutes of fame or even when we leave the room and come back in a few minutes later your tail wags up a storm. Our life changed the minute you entered our lives yet we feel as if you've been with us forever.
I love you even though you don't let me sleep past 6am because thats the time I walk you on weekdays.
I love you because when your dad and I are in different rooms you go back and forth because you want to be with the both of us.
I love you because you sigh in annoyance when you're trying to rest and your dad and I talk in bed and don't let you sleep.
I love you because even though lots of things scare you, you trust us enough to face your fears because you know that we'll protect you from any and everything.
I love you because you make us laugh when you get bouts energy and run like a maniac in the backyard making silly faces as you pass.
I love you because at 55 pounds you think you're a lapdog that can climb up just to give us kisses and then take a nap.
I love you because we can never get a good picture of you unless we're outdoors.
I can go on for hours of reasons for why I love you but overall I love you because you're you.
